Sonoran University embraces DEI to create a thriving and welcoming campus community. Here’s what these terms mean to us:
- Diversity encompasses the extensive range of human experiences, including race, ethnicity, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, various campus roles, and preferred communication styles. It's about recognizing and valuing differences that may include race, gender, religion, nationality, socioeconomic status, language, (dis)ability, age, and political perspective. This also addresses the underrepresentation and marginalization of certain groups in society.
- Equity focuses on creating access to opportunities and resources to achieve fair solutions in imbalanced environments. It involves promoting justice, impartiality, and fairness by addressing the different needs and circumstances of individuals. Tackling equity issues requires understanding the root causes of disparities in outcomes within our society.
- Inclusion is about providing programs, policies, and practices that meet the diverse needs of our campus community members. They ensure that everyone feels a sense of belonging and matters. Inclusive excellence integrates diversity, inclusion, and equity into our pursuit of organizational excellence. This standard ensures that DEI principles are embedded in all aspects of the university's operations and culture, enabling diverse individuals to participate fully in decision-making processes and development opportunities.
